Kayak / canoe inflatable vs solid?

Hi, Having been on a trip to the Lake District have decided that I should buy a canoe or kayak. I saw people with inflatable kayaks and was wondering if someone can offer some tips on what you should be looking to buy. I have the intention to use a kayak or canoe on the lakes, rivers and the sea. I think an inflatable would be good for easy storage, but there is a big difference in how they handle compared to solids? Thanks:)
